The business runs on Epicor Prophet 21 deployed in the cloud, harnessing the powerful ERP software to help streamline workflows, manage inventory and drive growth.
Supplying a loyal customer base of restaurants, schools, hotels, churches and more, J&P Supply is an integral part of the communities it serves. The company provides high quality products and expertise including on-site training and regulatory compliance education, as well as equipment service and repair. Jandi Overton, Branch Manager at J&P Supply, explained, “We operate two locations in a fairly rural corner of Oklahoma, and our customers appreciate that we are a trusted, local alternative to big-box stores.”
She continued, “Customers can shop however they prefer—in-store, pick-up, delivery or online. And the fact that the Prices grew up here reinforces the community connection.”
When Overton joined J&P Supply, she was not only new to the janitorial supply industry, she was also new to retail. The self-serve video tutorials are very well-done—I’ve watched over 100 of them. Additionally, I can send the video link to someone in the other store if they have questions. An Epicor Prophet 21 customer since 2008 J&P Supply made the move to the cloud in early 2022, citing reliability and ease of management as the primary catalysts for the transition. “The ability to better support our expanding online sales channel with real-time inventory management was another key factor,” Overton added.
Simple and streamlined order entry is another important benefit of Epicor Prophet 21. The solution helps offer the ability to complete the entire order entry process from one screen, and Overton particularly appreciates that the available stock automatically populates. “When you start typing, the stock pops up—it speeds up the order entry and reduces the risk of introducing errors,” she observed.
Another valuable improvement is in daily replenishment, which allows fast, accurate, and up-to-date inventory management of stock between the headquarters location in Enid and the Woodward store. Overton noted, “Epicor Prophet 21 dynamic inventory replenishment helped to enable us to minimize under- or over-ordering, track obsolete inventory, optimize our warehouse space, and manage cash flow.”
In 2022, J&P Supply management set a goal to grow sales by 23%, up from 15%, an objective which Epicor Prophet 21 helped achieve. A key component of that growth has been online sales. Like many cleaning supply businesses, J&P Supply experienced a significant surge in online ordering during the COVID-19 pandemic, a trend that J&P Supply management was keen to continue. Overton revealed, “Epicor Prophet 21 enabled that growth by speeding the ordering process and automating the ability to suggest accessory items, services, and recommended substitutions, as well as linking to product information such as material safety data sheets.”
The Epicor solution's emphasis on actionable business insights helps provide J&P Supply with full-bodied data to make informed decisions with dashboards that track sales month-over-month versus the previous year. “Epicor Prophet 21 makes it easy to identify when and where commissions should be paid,” Overton highlighted. Furthermore, routine tasks such as month-end reporting and cycle counts are automated, creating additional efficiencies. End-of-month reporting, which used to take one to two days, now takes minutes.
Data is harnessed for marketing efforts, too. Overton shared, “We use information such as top-selling items to run promotions, inform social media content, and support our customer of the month award program.”
